December 07Sign E-petition to change 2012 shooting venue

19.12.07 – This email from the president of British International Clay Target Shooting Federation is currently circulating across the shooting industry:

Dear all,

As you are probably aware, the proposed venue for the shooting events at the 2012 Olympic Games is Woolwich Barracks. This is not a suitable venue and despite the best efforts of GB's shooting governing bodies, the powers that be are not prepared to move it.

The idea is to construct it and knock it down after the Games at vast expense. This will leave shooting in this country with no lasting legacy, unlike the majority of other Olympic sports.

An E-petition to move the venue has been uploaded onto the 10 Downing Street website and I would ask that you sign up to support the attempt to move it.

Phil Rowley

President of BICTSF

Deer 'sanctuary' exposÉ posted on Youtube5.12.07 – The recently screened BBC Inside Out exposÉ of deer suffering on the League Against Cruel Sports’ (LACS) 'sanctuary' at Baronsdown on Exmoor has been posted on youtube . The original footage of a stag being stabbed to death was given to the Countryside Alliance after members became concerned about the welfare of deer on the LACS’ land in April. Footage was posted on another website – www.friction.tv – and was picked up by the BBC, who investigated further. Charlotte Fiander, spokesman for the Countryside Alliance, said: "We were all very shocked when this footage was originally handed to us earlier in the year, but it sadly confirmed what we have feared for a long time. "The deer on the LACS’s land are not being properly managed, and are routinely suffering from tuberculosis and other diseases. Deer on Baronsdown are suffering long and painful deaths and could also be contributing to the bovine TB epidemic in the South West. The BBC’s interest is the latest in a long line of stories of animal suffering emanating from Baronsdown. "It is incomprehensible that an organisation that prides itself for campaigning to end cruelty to wild animals is creating such agony on its own doorstep."";s
