A Facebook group – British Pigeon Shooting – has managed to raise over £6,000 for the NHS during Coronavirus crisis by running raffles and auctions to win donated days out in the field.
Sean Anderson, who launched and runs the group, has been steadily adding to the funds by offering an incredible mix of experiences, from red deer stalking to days in the pigeon hide, goose flighting to roe, sika and fallow hunts.
Sean set up British Pigeon Shooting two years ago in order to offer free, accompanied pigeon shooting days for people who struggle to find their own permissions, and has taken many people out for a day in the hide, smashing some personal bests for his guests along the way; the group now has almost 2,500 members and, as this story highlights, a wonderful sense of giving and community spirit.
Sean told us: “I was thinking about raising money for the NHS through the group, then a good friend of mine, Lee Barnfarther, started fundraising on his own Facebook group (Fieldsports and Fishing Prizes) and did really well! So, I thought I’d give it a try...
“I try to run a different raffle or auction every day, sometimes twice a day; it’s very time consuming, but we’ve got plenty of time on our hands at the moment! We’ve been giving away some cracking prizes, and there have been so many people donating prizes that I couldn’t tell you all of them!
“We’ve also spoken with Ridgeline of New Zealand, who have donated a couple of items. Right now, we have an auction lot up for grabs from Konar Miles; it’s a red deer stalk in Perthshire, and the bidding is up to £600 at the moment, with more to come!
“I just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who’s donated prizes for my group British Pigeon Shooting, especially to the Group Deer Stalking UK and its members who donated!”
It’s yet another heart-warming example of the shooting world’s exceptional response to the crisis we find ourselves in. We want to say a huge well done to Sean Anderson and everyone else in this story who have made us so proud, once again, to be a part of the shooting community.
If you haven’t already, consider joining these pages and getting involved in the raffles and auctions... not only will all the funds raised be sent to help the NHS during the Covid-19 outbreak, but you could bag yourself an incredible hunt or day in the field to look forward to once we are allowed out again!
