Following confirmation of a further case of bird flu in Lancashire, countryside organisations have issued advice to anyone involved with gamebird management
Countryside organisations including the National Gamekeepers’ Organisation (NGO), the Countryside Alliance (CA) and BASC have alerted their members to a confirmed outbreak of H5N8 bird flu in a small backyard flock of chickens at a farm near Thornton, Lancashire, and in a backyard flock of chickens and ducks at separate premises in the same area.
Defra has put in place a 3km Protection Zone and a 10km Surveillance Zone around the infected premises, and a full investigation is underway to determine the source of the infection.
