Q: Is it okay to feed my dog before a day’s work?

VICKY PAYNE replies: I think it is essential to feed before work. Feed a smaller breakfast (35-50% of their daily ration) at least two hours before the day starts to ensure your dog has plenty of energy for the day. And more importantly, don’t forget to keep your dog hydrated during the day, especially during the warmer early season days. Just as little as 1% dehydration will reduce a dog’s ability to regulate body temperature and recover from exercise, while 15% dehydration is fatal.
