Hownhall Shooting is based just north of Midhurst, within the Cowdray estate, nestled in a lovely woodland setting. The school’s ethos is to provide an expert level of tuition based on traditional standards and etiquette (but always with a fun and friendly approach), this being in line with our game shooting orientation.
We pride ourselves on our excellent tuition, catering for the novice shooter right through to the established, and specialising in training for game shooting using clays. Ultimately, Hownhall is a shooting school; thus its main focus is on instruction.
Services
Our bespoke services include full corporate shooting facilities, lessons with expert instructors and have-a-go sessions for complete beginners. We also offer superb simulated game shooting throughout the year at other locations around the beautiful Cowdray estate.
Facilities
The school is proud to boast many driven targets, in keeping with our game orientation – mid to high tower targets combine with a mix of partridge style shooting. In addition to this, we have three grouse butts with a fully auto-flush system, which can be used as a sharpener for the relevant season. For the general shooter, we boast 17 stands of Sporting targets. Tea and coffee is available free of charge, along with our famous homemade flapjacks!
What makes us unique
The most obvious USP at Hownhall Shooting is the incredibly friendly, Zen-like atmosphere. We take a non-negotiable stand on ensuring all clients are made to feel welcome. This has created a dedicated following, and indeed constantly attracts new shooters.
Part of the school is very woody, which enabled us to create lifelike targets coming through or over the trees, while the lower part of the school, although surrounded by woodland, is open with more sky, allowing us to put on bigger targets more suited to this type of setting for a great mix.
The topography overall perfectly mimics a cosy woodland-style shoot, with lots of little pockets adding to its unique atmosphere.
Future plans
We plan to establish our catering facility in the New Year, offering our clients a small selection of fresh hot and cold produce. Local suppliers and game-related meat products will form the basis of the menu.
Also currently in planning stages is a list of non-registered events including small bore and side-by-side competitions. An air rifle course and plinking range are also in the making.
In addition to the above, we plan to run a small group of educational courses related to a variety of aspects of shooting, ranging from gun safety to homeloading, and black powder to game day etiquette.
