IAPS Annual Clay Shooting Championships – WLSS

For the fourth consecutive year, West London Shooting School has hosted the IAPS Clay Shooting Championships, encouraging more youngsters into the sport

On Saturday 4 May, West London Shooting School hosted the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Annual Clay Shooting Championships for the fourth consecutive year, welcoming a record 233 children aged between 10 and 13 to their shooting grounds in Northolt.

An initiative launched by Ronan Lindsey of Danes Hill School four years ago, this year's IAPS Championships involved three layouts - 30 targets for the under 11s, the same for the under 12s and 50 targets for the under 13s, creating suitable categories for all age groups.

Ronan Lindsey said: "It was another fantastic IAPS Championship this year at West London Shooting School. Although the event has now grown to over 200 pupils from 26 different schools around the country, some things remain the same, such as the outstanding coaching on offer to these young shots by the West London Shooting School staff. The most common statement that I have every year from this event is how much the parents, staff and pupils from schools appreciate the coaching staff's approach towards the event. One of the best IAPS events in the sporting calendar, can't wait for 2020!"

With such a great number of schools taking part, the day was split into two, with half of the schools attending in the morning and the other in the afternoon, before ending the day with an awards ceremony and match teas at 5pm.

Head instructor at West London Shooting School, Mark Heath said: "This competition continues to grow and we are all impressed with the standard of shooting together with the team ethic of the young people taking part. Their standard of conduct on the day of the competition is always exceptional."

The aim of the event is to demonstrate the benefits children can gain from clay shooting tuition, and help pupils develop a professional attitude and aptitude, and the ability to compete under pressure.

A fun day was enjoyed by all.

Format of the day:

08.00 - Arrival for morning schools allocation at West London Shooting School (Registrations open)

08.30 - Briefing on rules for all staff

09.00 - All age groups will commence the championships

12.00 - Departure from WLSS or wait for presentations at 17.00hrs

12.10 - Lunch for schools leaving

12.00 - Arrival for afternoon schools allocation at West London Shooting School (Registrations open)

12.30 - Lunch for schools arriving

13.30 - Briefing on rules for all staff

14.00 - All age groups will commence the championships

17.00 - Awards and match teas

17.30 - Departure from WLSS
