The NEW Rangemaster Juggernaut slug!

Daystate introduces the new Rangemaster Juggernaut - a .22”/5.5mm slug - and explains its colour-coded tins for fast identification

It’s not only the best air rifles in the world that deserve the best ammo – every shooter does too! Through exhaustive testing by its Accuracy Research Team (A.R.T), Daystate continues to develop its Rangemaster-branded airgun ammunition in collaboration with the world’s finest pellet manufacturers. The latest ammo to be adopted in this ongoing program is the new Rangemaster Juggernaut – a .22”/5.5mm calibre ‘slug’.

Extensive performance tests over the past year – on the range and in the field – have proven this 25.39-grain (1.645g), solid-body slug to produce a superior level of accuracy, both in high power Daystate and Brocock air rifle models, and with many other air rifles with power output levels in excess of 30ft/lbs (40J).

The Czech-made Juggernaut is the first ‘slug to complement the Rangemaster’s already extensive line of precision-made airgun ammunition, which spans calibres from .177”/4.5mm to .30”/7.62mm, in weights from 8.44 to 50.15 grains (0.547 to 3.240 grams) and includes stalwart lines such as the Emperor, Kaiser, King and Sovereign roundhead diabolos. In short, the Rangemaster line offers high-quality ammo with ballistic configurations to cover every airgunning scenario, be it sub-12ft/lbs (16J) short-range hunting, long-range hunting at powers up to 100+ft/lbs (135+J), Field Target or Benchrest competition.

From a market that didn’t exist 2-3 years ago the range of available airgun slugs has climbed to a market full of different weights, brands and sizes. Daystate has cut through this with it’s Rangemaster brand and has adopted and branded this 5.5mm 25grain hollow point slug as its contender of choice... and what a choice! The team has probably tested 20 different types to bring you what is, in their opinion, the best the market currently has to offer.

High power airguns have been having a renaissance of late with companies like Daystate making far more high power airguns than the UK unlicensed 12 foot pounds, so with power levels creeping up and up, the pellet manufacturers have been rushing to develop specialist ammunition to take advantage of it.

Daystate’s Accuracy Research Team was set up 3 years ago to specialise in accuracy testing of a new type of barrel; this soon expanded into pellet testing and the ‘ART’ is now tasked with testing and selecting all the pellets available on the market and adopting the best into the Rangemaster Brand of Ammunition.

Sometimes this can mean not only testing pellets from many different manufacturers but many different weights and head sizes to select the best available. Though the ART team specifically test with Daystate and Brocock rifles, the rule of excellence will most often apply to other makes of airgun as well.

Roll in the Juggernaut

This traditional shaped bullet is, when applied to an airgun, a ‘slug’, and a slug usually has a better Ballistic Coefficient than a pellet. What this means in practise is that the slug retains a lot more energy at extreme ranges where it outperforms an airgun pellet. But The ART team didn’t have an easy time of it as trials revealed that it’s not always so easy to get better results, and a lot of development work was needed to ensure that short range accuracy would at least match that of a pellet.

The Juggernaut slug is the team’s answer, producing phenomenal accuracy right out to 100 meters and beyond. The Juggernaut .22 now joins a range of 18 other pellets in the Rangemaster brand, with each type given its own sub brand relating to the power it is recommended for:

Precision-made to exacting tolerances, the Rangemaster Kaiser, Sovereign, Sovereign Hunter, King, Emperor pellets and now Juggernaut Slugs cover, between them, calibres from .177 to .30 (4.5 to 7.62mm) and weights from 8.44 to 50.15 grains (0.547 to 3.240 grams).

Each of the Rangemaster types has been specially matched to suit specific purposes, from short- and long-range hunting to field target and Benchrest competition, with ballistic configurations to cater for rifles that produce sub-12ft/lbs (16J) power output to those in excess of 100+ft/lbs (135+J).
